about

Based on an idea from the bands Berlin agent, Twiggy Stardust, this track was written in 2003 as a tribute to some blones from Gress who are on the Celtic fringe of the Garage Rock scene. According to a yarn spun by Twiggy, back in the day they used to have to be propped up by cushions when they appeared on TV at the Mod cos they were so wee. Given that the same Twiggy, under the influence of a particularly pungent Guga, also once met himself in Glasgow in an unlikely space-time rift incident this should be taken with a years supply of the Comhairles gritting stock ( everyone knows the space-time rift is in Cardiff, sheesh ).

lyrics

There are some girls - their hair is black
It might be startin' to turn grey, but I ain't seen them for a while
When I was young - much further back
They sat on cushions on TV because they were so very small

Oh-oh they sang so sweetly I am told
Oh-oh the cushion gurls

When I grew up - I fell in love
I didn't know just what to say, but it wasn't quite enough
The oldest girl - the sweetest one
She let me down oh so gently - I couldn't complain, not at all

Oh-oh they sang so sweetly I am told
Oh-oh the cushion gurls

Now they are tall - and not so young
I've heard the songs on their CD - and they are very fine indeed
No cushions now - to prop them up
Their talent is so indiscreet they have no need for all that stuff

Oh-oh they sang so sweetly I am told
Oh-oh the cushion gurls

about

Memphis Louie & The Rockin' Firebird Of Death Sandwick, UK

Emerging after 18 years of silence from the ashes of the Outer Hebrides' 60s garage band scene (which happened in the 80s), MLATRFOD formed in 2003 in the cac filled swamps between Stornoway and Sandwick. They've been mixing up a mess of fuzztone-crazed garage psych, Link Wrayabilly and glacial post punk ever since, and taking their time about it. Their names are too long to fit in a Bandcamp bio ... more
